NORMALIZATION

Normalization is a heat treatment applied to reduce grain size, to obtain a homogeneous internal structure, to improve the processing and mechanical properties of the material, to distribute the carbide network at the grain boundaries of supra-eutectoid steels, and to increase the hardness and strength of steels subjected to softening annealing. It is heated to a temperature suitable for the steel alloy and cooled in calm air.

Usage areas

Normalization is mostly applied in semi-finished products, in cast materials to refine the coarse-grained structure in high-temperature forged or rolled parts, or to regulate the coarse structure with little ductility that occurs after casting.
